John, I've always promised to organize and legislate for St. Louis and communities like it.
That's why Rep. Jamaal Bowman and I introduced a resolution to make power a public utility and guarantee basic utility services to everyone in our country. If you're ready for an energy revolution, make a donation of any amount today so we can continue pushing for the transformative changes we need to ensure everyone has access to public, affordable utilities.
I know firsthand the costs and challenges that can come with flipping on a light switch, connecting to the internet, turning up the heat, or expecting clean water.
I've moved because of a $1,800 a month utility bill.
I've been faced with the impossible choice of keeping on the heat during the winter or buying groceries.
And I remember the day when the outlet that powered an electric space heater started shooting out flames and nearly burned down my 2-year-old baby's room — all because I couldn't afford the gas bill. Public power could — and should — have prevented this.
This isn't by accident, John. Most of our energy systems are owned by private investors which means they are designed to profit off of so much of what we rely on to stay alive — everything from heat to electricity. The current structure explicitly prioritizes profits over people, and disproportionately impacts low-income and Black and brown families — but it doesn't need to be this way.
If we work together, this people-powered movement can bring about an energy revolution and create a future where our energy system is public, fossil-free, and affordable to all.
I'm ready to get to work to make this legislation a reality, but I need your help to power this fight ahead. John, will you make a donation of $5 or more today to support our work to ensure public power and grow our movement for bold, transformative change?
Thank you,
Cori
