LGBTQ Asylum Seekers Teel Their Harrowing Stories - And What Congress Can Do To Help

LGBTQ people around the globe face violence, discrimination, and even death just for who they are or whom they love. They have fled to our country seeking safety and asylum, but increasingly find themselves detained by ICE or having to wait in limbo for years as their applications are held up in an overstretched and underfunded bureaucracy. While this has been going on for many years, the problems have gotten much worse under the current administration.

Center Global, a program of the DC Center for the LGBT Community, invites you to a lunchtime briefing ([link removed]) to hear directly from LGBTQ asylum seekers about their experiences seeking asylum in the United Statesβ€”both here in Washington, DC area and at the border. The asylum seekers will be joined by policy experts who will address how Congress can take steps to address the difficulties facing LGBT asylum seekers, and all asylum seekers, under the Trump-Pence administration.

A light lunch will be provided beginning at 11:45 a.m. Please RSVP here. ([link removed])
