TransCanada still hasn't returned Nebraskans' land. Donate now to support their fight.
John --
The Keystone XL pipeline has been officially *terminated*!
TransCanada (TC Energy) announced yesterday that the company has terminated its proposed Keystone XL Pipeline project, and "will continue to coordinate with regulators, stakeholders and Indigenous groups to meet its environmental and regulatory commitments and ensure a safe termination of and exit from the Project." [1]
While we are rejoicing at hearing this news, our work is not done. One glaring issue TransCanada did not mention is returning all of the land easements it has acquired from farmers, ranchers, and landowners for the pipeline.
In fact, even after President Biden revoked the permit for Keystone XL on his first day in office -- TransCanada continued in recent months to file lawsuits against landowners to seize their property for the now-cancelled pipeline. [2] Â
Donate to support Bold's work, and the landowners still fighting TransCanada's eminent domain to have their land returned.
After hearing the news that TransCanada terminated Keystone XL, Art Tanderup -- the landowner and farmer on the now-terminated KXL route near Neligh, NE and along the Ponca Trail of Tears, who deeded land back to the Ponca, helped restore the Tribe's sacred corn to its ancestral homeland, and hosted the 2014 "Harvest the Hope" concert feat. Willie Nelson and Neil Young, said:
"After a decade, it is a good day that TransCanada has realized that there is no future in tar sands and the Keystone XL Pipeline, but it is imperative that all permits granted in Nebraska be revoked, especially the Nebraska Public Service Commission’s permit. The further taking of easements by TransCanada must stop, and current easements must be returned to the landowners. This action provides proof that the stewards of the earth and the water; the farmers, ranchers, and Tribes know how to respect what the Creator has given us."
We call on TransCanada to respect the property rights of U.S. landowners, and immediately relinquish all easements so the land is returned and restored.
Thanks for continuing to stand with landowners and support Bold's work.
