Dear John,
This past weekend, thousands of Water Protectors from across the country and around the world gathered at the Treaty People Gathering in Northern Minnesota. We came together to take nonviolent direct action in solidarity with Indigenous leaders for racial justice, water, and our climate future.
Water Protectors are still holding space and exercising treaty rights. The RISE Coalition, an environmental organization led by Indigenous women, is calling on allies to join them at Fire Light Camp near the Mississippi headwaters. Get info and updates.

Now, the Twin Cities are rising in solidarity with Water Protectors and bringing pipeline resistance to Senator Amy Klobuchar’s office. Join us today from 5-7 p.m. We’ll gather in Gold Medal Park in Minneapolis.

TakeAction climate leader Donna called us to action before attending the Treaty People Gathering last week, saying, “The movement to stop the Line 3 tar sands pipeline intertwines issues of climate change, land abuse, and racism. I feel called to act on behalf of future generations, to transition away from fossil fuels, to follow Native leaders, and to unite with the next generation of activists in order to protect the water.”

If you live in the metro area and weren’t able to join us up north, this evening is a great – and essential – opportunity to plug in and act in solidarity.

If you’re new to the #StopLine3 movement, welcome. We need you. I invite you to learn more about this tar sands pipeline’s impact on treaty rights and climate change, and the history of resistance against it. Support the hundreds of Water Protectors who were arrested this week by donating to their bail fund.

Our elected officials have the power to stop construction right now. They can choose the side of climate denial and injustice, or they can choose life. They need to be accountable to us and act on the right side of history. It’s time for Amy Klobuchar to take a stand against the pipeline, and pressure other leaders to do the same.
I'll be heading to the action around 4:00pm today. We're asking folks who can take on a lead role to arrive by 4:30. See you there!
