Team --
June is Pride Month, and it gives us the opportunity to reflect on the valuable contributions of LGBTQ+ Americans in NY-19 and across the entire country, as well as the organizations dedicated to fostering a supportive community.
Back in February, I was proud to vote to pass the Equality Act -- a bill that ensures that all LGBTQ+ Americans are granted the full protections guaranteed by federal civil rights law. Unfortunately, the Senate has yet to act on the bill -- for no reason other than certain folks turning civil rights into a partisan issue.
LGBTQ+ rights are not a partisan issue. And now, it's on us to stand up for our fellow Americans, because no one deserves to be penalized for love or identity.
Will you please add your name alongside mine and call on the Senate to pass the Equality Act?
This year marks the 6 year anniversary of the Supreme Court striking down all state bans on same-sex marriage, legalizing it in all fifty states, and requiring states to honor out-of-state same-sex marriage licenses. But this hasn't stopped elected officials from attempting to strip LGBTQ+ Americans of their basic human rights.
As a matter of fact, there are lawmakers across the country who have tried to infringe on the rights of our fellow Americans, just because of who they love or how they identify themselves.
Love is love -- and so long as we continue to center love at the core of what we do, we can and will make a difference in defending the countless LGBTQ+ Americans right here in NY-19 and beyond.
This legislation simply cannot wait. Please join me in calling on the Senate to pass the Equality Act.
Thanks for choosing love, friend.
