The People’s Alliance PAC is working to schedule the 2021 endorsement meeting to consider candidates for Durham mayor and city council seats for Wards 1, 2, and 3. The ongoing pandemic, combined with some questions about the timing of the election given the delay in 2020 census results and the extremely compressed election calendar this year have led us to start making tentative plans already.
We expect to hold this year’s endorsement meeting virtually, on or about September 1. You must be a People’s Alliance member <[link removed]> to attend the endorsement meeting.
Lapsed members who have not yet renewed their membership for the 2021 calendar year canrenew online <[link removed]> up until a few days before the endorsement meeting to speak on behalf of a candidate and vote for their preferred candidates. Because the meeting will be virtual, membership renewal will NOT be available the day of the meeting.
Those who are considering PA membership <[link removed]> for the first time who would like to attend and vote at the endorsement meeting must join PA at least 60 days before the endorsement meeting. We do not yet have an exact date for the meeting, so encourage people who have not been members of PA before to join no later than June 30.
While the endorsement meeting may be held later than August 29, it will not be held earlier than that date, so any new members that join on or before June 30 will be assured of their eligibility to vote at the endorsement meeting.
New members who join less than 60 days before the endorsement meeting are encouraged to attend and speak on behalf of candidates but cannot vote to endorse a candidate for office.
