I've been thinking for days now about something one of our candidates, Phil Hernandez (who will be on the ballot in Virginia this November!), said in an interview recently:
"99% of the time when I'm out knocking on doors, people will tell me, 'You're the first candidate who's ever showed up at my door to ask what I think, what I care about. The changes I'd like to see for the future.' And that's powerful."
We know that people talking to people is more powerful than any ad campaign the Democratic party can run. And we saw in 2017 and 2018 that the reverse coattails effect -- where folks higher up the ticket benefit from the voter outreach done by local candidates -- is real, and can make the difference when it matters most.
