Yesterday was the Democratic primary in Virginia, and Truth to Power endorsee Jennifer Carroll Foy was on the ballot for governor.
We’re proud of all the hard work Jennifer, her team, and Truth to Power supporters (like you) have put into her campaign. But unfortunately, she didn’t win enough votes to advance into the general election—a tough loss for our progressive movement.
We saw this happen in the 2020 elections too, John. Many of our Truth to Power candidates who campaigned on popular, progressive issues like Medicare for All, housing justice, and a Green New Deal lost their races to corporate PAC-backed, far-right, and well-connected opponents.
No matter what, it’s always going to be an uphill battle to elect candidates that aren't afraid to take a stand against special interests and who make it clear that their priorities lie with the people.
Yesterday’s loss was disappointing, but John, we can’t be discouraged; we need to keep doing exactly what we set out to do from the start. For us to keep moving our country forward, that's the kind of fight we need to be committed to fighting every day of every year, election or not.
