We have HUGE celebratory news to share!
Last night, 30 students graduated from the first-ever cohort of the NNU Medicare for All Leadership School. (Check out the amazing photo we snapped below! ❤️)
These volunteer leaders in the Medicare for All movement have spent the past two months building their skills and completing hands-on training to become even more effective organizers in their communities.
They completed workshops, trainings, group projects, and virtual events in their communities that have already made a tangible difference in our fight for Medicare for All.
Here are just a few direct quotes from our graduates last night on what the Leadership School meant to them:
“This leadership class taught me how to build a pressure movement like they did in Selma. When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. And that’s what this leadership class has taught us — to speak up and to cause good trouble.”
“I started out and became a nurse and wanted to advocate for change, newness, and direction, but never did I think that my little voice and my experience could be served in the best way to advocate for everyone through this national campaign. I've been searching and searching, and what I learned here in two months has been phenomenal.”
“I’ve learned so many valuable lessons. Not only have I been able to apply this to Medicare for All, but I’ve been able to apply this to advocate for publicly run power, the Green New Deal, and basic progressive values. These are extremely valuable lessons — they’re all bookmarked so I can keep them as a reference!”
As organizers, our job is to give people concrete hope that things can be different, that things can really change for the better. And from there, we inspire people to take action from that place of hope and give them the tools to succeed.
If you are someone who is interested in inspiring that kind of action and becoming an effective volunteer leader, please consider joining our next cohort of the Medicare for All Leadership School in the fall.
If you’d like to apply, you can fill out our NNU Medicare for All Leadership School Interest Form here.
The program requires a commitment of about 5 hours per week, and people of color, women, and those with firsthand experience with our broken healthcare system are especially encouraged to apply.
By taking part in our Leadership School, you’ll receive trainings, workshops, be part of group projects, and get to implement what you’ve learned in a hands-on way with the direct support of our staff. And, you’ll make lots of new friends who share your level of commitment to healthcare justice!
Thank you, Friend, for celebrating the success of these 30 new leaders in the Medicare for All movement. We can’t wait to see all that they accomplish.
And again, to our amazing graduates: congratulations!! 🎉
