Donald Trump is facing a lawsuit for defamation because he publicly disparaged E. Jean Carroll, an American journalist, after she accused him of sexual harassment in a 2019 memoir.
Given the intense politicization of the Department of Justice under Trump himself, it was disappointing but hardly surprising that they initially chose to defend him.
However, I’m surprised and disappointed with the current Department of Justice’s decision to continue defending Donald Trump.
Will you add your name and join me in demanding that Attorney General Merrick Garland stops using our tax dollars to defend Donald Trump?
The decision to defend Donald Trump could set a disturbing precedent. Do we really want all federal employees to feel free to defame anyone of their choice with the understanding that they are immune from consequences?
Trump’s repulsive slander of E. Jean Carroll has nothing to do with his job as president, and it’s not debatable.
This is why it’s important, as the Chair of the Judiciary Committee, for me to detail these concerns in an official letter to AG Merrick Garland. But, one letter isn’t enough — we need grassroots support.
Stand with me and urge the Department of Justice to stop defending Trump!
Onward,
Jerry
