| | Lawmakers Respond to the State Budget |

|
| State lawmakers have released their budget framework in response to the Governor’s May Revision of the state budget, (NPH discussed details of the May Revise in a blog post and a follow up email) and NPH is thrilled to see key investments move forward. The Legislature's budget proposal builds on the Governor's unprecedented $12 billion in spending for housing and homelessness which includes: the $1.75 billion for stalled California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD)-funded projects, $500 million for low income housing tax credits, and $300 million for preservation of HCD-funded projects. We are also excited to see critical additional investments: NPH is seeking more details on what the Foreclosure Program will fund and will update you accordingly. The final state budget must be adopted by June 15th, but remember that additional policy details on how funding will be spent may be decided on later beyond the June 15th deadline through budget bills known as "budget trailer bills." We will keep you posted as we know more. |

| | AB 71 (L. Rivas), to create a $2.4 billion annual allocation for homelessness and housing by taxing overseas profits of corporations that do business in California, has become a two-year bill. The Bring CA Home coalition, which NPH is proud to help lead, is spearheading a shift in strategy and is exploring the possibility of a ballot measure for securing an ongoing source for funding. Remember that our movement requires a long-term strategy that not only emphasizes how many bills we pass, but how we build power as a collective voice for affordable housing. NPH continues to build power as a collective voice for affordable housing and we look forward to the next steps in this campaign. Dig deeper with NPH: - Join a working group.
