On January 6, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy called Donald Trump to tell him a mob was breaking into the Capitol.
Trump's response was quick: “Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are.” McCarthy and Trump then had a screaming match while McCarthy begged Trump to call his seditionist supporters off.
Then Trump put out a video telling a mob of white supremacists they're “very special.”
The Justice Department has already charged over 400 insurrectionists, including founding members of extremist groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, for breaching the Capitol.
This was a planned attack, and national security experts have warned that without a proper investigation, the violence we saw on January 6 will repeat itself.
Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans know this, and they still blocked a bipartisan effort to establish a January 6 commission. But Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn't going to let the GOP rewrite history on this one. She's proposed a new Democrat-led commission into the insurrection.
