Dear John,

Amazing news! After years of campaigning and lobbying, a ban on the primate pet trade is closer than it has ever been.

Just yesterday the Animal Welfare (Kept Animals) bill which includes the ban on pet primates, was formally introduced into Parliament. This is the first step in the process of the bill becoming law and soon we will be able to input on the details of the bill, when we will advocate for the strongest law to protect non-human primates.

This ban would mean an end to the keeping of monkeys and other non-human primates in 'private settings' like people's homes and an end to the cruelty we have witnessed at pet shops selling monkeys.

Years of hard work and campaigning by people like you, our charity and our campaign partners, has gotten us to this point. Petitions, protests, meetings with politicians, investigations and more, have made sure non-human primates have a chance at a better future. Thank you.

But the ban is not secure yet. There have been indications that the ban may not cover all primates, and that some people may be able to secure licences to keep them captive.

This cannot be allowed to happen!

We must keep up the fight to secure this much needed and long overdue ban and make sure all primates are protected!

Take action!

Now the bill is in progress, there will be lots of work ahead for us to make sure the bill goes through and delivers a full ban for primates. You can help sustain these actions for primates by making a donation. With your vital help we will do all we can to lobby government, feedback on their draft legislation and press for a ban that will end this vile trade utterly and completely.

Soon we will be needing your support in lobbying MPs to make sure the ban truly protects primates, so I will email you again then!

No primate should be forced to endure a lifetime of captivity. With your help Freedom for Animals will continue to push for a total ban on this cruel trade.

Thank you.

For the animals,

Sam Threadgill
