John,

Nearly one million people remain voiceless in New York City, despite their contributions on the frontline of the pandemic as teachers, nurses, doctors, reporters, small business owners and so much more. These immigrant workers were deemed “essential” to our survival, yet they have been completely shut out of the political life of our city. Without municipal voting rights, they cannot shape the decisions that impact their daily lives—decisions that impact their lives in big and small ways like the quality of their local schools, the cleanliness of their parks and streets, and so much more.

Join Our Fight to Enfranchise Immigrant New Yorkers!

Support is building for the campaign, and we need you to join us! The majority of city council members and many mayoral candidates, including Eric Adams, Shaun Donovan, Dianne Morales, Maya Wiley, and Andrew Yang, support this essential reform to help enfranchise the voiceless in New York City. As more candidates advocate for extending the vote to immigrants, we must seize this opportunity to pass Intro 1867 in the New York City Council. We can no longer deny a voice to the immigrants that make up our city!

As you cast your vote on or before June 22, consider the one million immigrant New Yorkers who have been denied a say in our local democracy. Ensuring that they have a vote is the most important way we can empower the diverse communities that are so integral to New York City!

In solidarity,

Murad Awawdeh
Executive Director
