I am disappointed but not surprised.
Rand Paul and his treasonous buddies in the Senate used their favorite tool — the Jim Crow filibuster — to block the creation of a nonpartisan commission to investigate the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The vote was 35 ‘no’ to 54 ‘yes.’ Can you believe that in the United States of America, in the year 2021, 35 is greater than 54 when it comes to basic governing? Pathetic.
It’s time to abolish the filibuster, John. We can no longer allow a small minority to constantly override the will of the American people.
You already know I’m thinking of running for Senate against Rand Paul. And I’ve got to tell you, when I see cowardly votes like this, it makes me even more fired up to get in the race. But, I need to know you’re with me. If we do this, I’m going to need every bit of grassroots support I can get.

Folks, the filibuster is not some long-standing constitutional staple. It is a relic of the Jim Crow era, created to allow a small minority of U.S. Senators to impede the will of the people. For decades now, it’s blocked progress on civil rights, economic justice, climate change and more.
Kentucky badly needs a senator who will put this Jim Crow relic in the past where it belongs.
The vote on starting an investigation into the January 6th insurrection should have been a no-brainer. Five people died. White supremacists walked around the hallway outside the Senate floor carrying Confederate flags and wearing Auschwitz shirts. We need to get to the bottom of how this happened.
The fact that even a simple, bipartisan, straightforward bill like this could get blocked is all you need to know about why we need to kick the filibuster to the curb.
We’ve got to elect senators who will get the job done. I’m thinking about running, but I need to know we’ll have the support we need to win in Kentucky.
