Unfortunately, the result wasn’t what we were hoping for. However, I’m so proud of all we accomplished together.
For the last year and a half, working families from all backgrounds have come together to fight for the change we want to see. We have come together to lift up workers, women, and wages. To make sure that we've got shots in arms and people in jobs, and to ensure that Virginia is both the best place to work and raise a family. We have centered the voices of those who have been left out and left behind.
Never did I imagine that in the former capital of the Confederacy, a girl from Petersburg could come this far.
We came far and defied many odds because of YOU -- grassroots organizers, volunteers, and working families who believe we need something different than the status quo. Every minute, hour, and day that you put into this campaign and our movement made a difference for Virginia.
I have faith in each and every one of you to continue doing the important work to move Virginia forward – it’s worth it. And I’m so grateful to you. You jumped in and took a chance on this campaign. Thank you for believing in me -- I will never stop fighting for our shared vision for the future.
Lastly, we’re going to keep fighting for what's right. We're going to keep fighting to change the status quo that’s left too many people behind. We are going to fight to make sure that politicians aren't applying band aids from one crisis to the next and are tackling the challenges that we face in a way that will actually solve them. I will keep pushing for workers’ rights, healthcare access, criminal justice reform, gender equality, and a forward looking agenda that will lift up all Virginians.
I will never stop fighting to build a Commonwealth where everyone has an opportunity to thrive. I will never stop working hard to make sure that a brighter future is on the horizon.
Thank you and the work continues,
Jennifer
Jennifer Carroll Foy was born and raised in Petersburg. In 2017, she flipped a Republican district as a first-time candidate pregnant with twins. During her time as Delegate, Jennifer championed the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment, helped expand Medicaid to 400,000 Virginians, and advocated for the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable communities.
She has a career of public service and it started long before 2017. As a public defender, Jennifer helped give a voice to the often voiceless — children, people suffering from addiction, those experiencing homelessness, those with mental illness, and the poor.
Now she’s running to be the first woman elected Governor of Virginia and serve as the first Black woman to be governor nationwide.
