We’re not going to beat around the bush, John.
Women’s Marchers all across the country organized tirelessly to help win the White House AND both chambers of Congress — and together, we did it. We refuse to let our hard work go to waste because Sen. Joe Manchin wants to “compromise” with the GOP.
With the filibuster still in play, Mitch McConnell can still manage to stall, and even outright block, progressive legislation from making it to President Biden's desk. What’s even more disappointing is that Joe Manchin is now voting WITH the GOP and refusing to rise against their filibuster regime out of the interest of “bipartisanship.” Just over the weekend, Joe Manchin announced that he’s voting against the For the People Act — an overwhelmingly popular and common sense bill that makes voting more accessible. It's a disgrace.
Let’s make this clear: Bipartisanship is impossible with a party that continues to falsely claim election fraud, is excusing an outright attempted insurrection, and denies us our most basic democratic rights. We cannot allow Joe Manchin to block the progress we’ve fought so hard for.
Now that Democrats control the White House, Senate, and the House, we have a rare and important opportunity to pass bold action on issues we care about, like climate justice, racial justice, expanding voting rights, defending reproductive rights, and more.
But building our feminist future can't happen with Joe Manchin supporting a Jim Crow, obstructionist filibuster, so we must abolish it once and for all.
We must do everything we can to eliminate the filibuster, but it will take an enormous public pressure campaign to make sure Joe Manchin understands the gravity of his actions. That's why it's crucial that as many Women's Marchers as possible add their voices to this petition today and remind Joe Manchin that we’re watching:
