Folks — Recently, I, along with a few of my colleagues, took a bold first step towards the pursuit of justice for the people of Haiti.

While Rep. Levin, Rep. Demings, and Rep. Pressley and I come from vastly different backgrounds and all corners of the country, we share a deep commitment to the Haitian people and seeing Haitian democracy thrive.

Haiti has long suffered at the hands of colonialism, enduring the injustice of exploitation for the benefit of more powerful countries. I’m confident that the Haitian people can overcome anything, and I want to work towards a Haiti free from corruption, violence, human rights violations, and economic and public health crisis.

This caucus will also represent a turning point in the relationship between our countries. We can’t repeat our past mistakes; however, if we uplift and listen to the Haitian people, we can help form a democratic future that will serve all of Haiti’s people.

I encourage my other colleagues in the house to join us in pursuit of a just foreign policy that puts the people of Haiti first. It is my deepest desire that this caucus can act as a conduit for the voices of the Haitian people and work alongside them and the Biden Administration towards forging a new relationship between our countries.

I’m so proud to be able to represent the aspirations of the people of Haiti, especially as we enter Caribbean American Heritage Month.

Thank you for supporting me and giving me the chance to be a voice for justice in the highest halls of power.

If you want to help me stay fighting for the people of Brooklyn as well as immigrants and disenfranchised people across the country, consider donating $10 to keep me in Congress.

Thank you,

Yvette Clarke
