John,

On June 1, the first day of LGBTQ+ Pride Month, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a transphobic bill to ban transgender students from playing in girls' sports. On the same day, Florida Democrat Nikki Fried officially announced she'll do everything she can to defeat DeSantis in 2022.

This is a race we can't miss. According to FiveThirtyEight and a St. Pete poll, Nikki Fried is virtually tied with Ron DeSantis, the anti-democracy governor who Trump calls the “future” of the GOP. Florida political columnist Joe Henderson has pointed out, “Fried is the first Democrat since Alex Sink in 2006 to win a statewide race in Florida. Let's not forget that.”

We know DeSantis might not be on your radar yet, but he's passing awful laws that will suppress voters and discriminate against trans people and people of color. We have a chance to flip Florida blue this cycle with your help -- and we need to seize it.

DeSantis has been climbing Trump's list of favorites, mostly for his help in amplifying the Big Lie -- but he hasn't gotten the national attention some of his right-wing colleagues have. Instead, he's been working in the shadows to restrict voting rights in Florida, one of the largest battleground states in the country, ahead of the 2022 election.

Nikki Fried has won statewide before, and she can defeat DeSantis next year, but while her support comes from small-dollar grassroots donors like you, DeSantis has pulled in over $14 million from corporations and Big Business.

Fried has already gained points on DeSantis because Democrats started paying attention to this race before she even announced. Republicans took notice, and while their fundraising numbers show it, we're falling $1,028 short of our daily goal to back progressive women like Fried. John, will you pitch in anything you can right now, even just $1, to amplify our fight to defeat Trump-favorite Ron Desantis in 2022? >> [link removed]

2020 was a successful year for DeSantis -- at least if you ask the GOP.

In the middle of the pandemic, DeSantis banned local governments from enforcing mask mandates, costing the lives of over 37,000 Floridians.

When George Floyd's murder sparked nationwide protests demandings racial justice, DeSantis passed the most restrictive anti-protest bill in the country to protect white supremacist monuments and give police the power to charge peaceful protesters with felony crimes.

He ended the year by refusing to accept Joe Biden as President-elect and amplifying Trump's baseless claims that the election was stolen.

Thank you for helping us show Ron DeSantis what the word accountability means and supporting the progressive leaders the American people deserve.
