It’s long past time to abolish the filibuster.
With Democrats in control of the House, the Senate, and the White House, now is the time for bold, intentional, and immediate action to pass legislation that matches the scale of the crises we face.
But here’s the harsh reality: Senate Republicans aren’t interested in helping our communities, and they’re using the filibuster to block progress on critical policies like a $15 minimum wage, safeguarding voting rights, environmental justice, criminal legal reform, and so much more.
The filibuster is a racist procedural tool and a relic of the Jim Crow era created to allow a small minority of U.S. Senators to block critical legislation — and Senate Democrats must abolish it once and for all.
Republicans tried to overturn the outcome of a democratic election. They’re working overtime to rip away voting rights state by state — and recently, Senate Republicans used the filibuster to block a commission to investigate the January 6th attack on our Capitol.
We cannot allow obstructionist Republicans to use this archaic, racist tool to deny the progress our communities deserve and demand — but the only way we do that is if we raise our collective voices.
