Dear John,

The first video was evidence enough; security footage from last December showed Representative Nearman holding a door open to Oregon’s Capitol building for armed rioters. Yielding guns, pepper spray, and in some instances literal pitchforks, these white nationalists and far-right extremists clearly meant people in the building harm. They caused property damage and assaulted police officers. After what we witnessed in our nation’s capitol building on January 6, we know we can’t let these attacks on our democracy continue.

Now more video evidence has emerged [[link removed]] revealing that Representative Nearman not only helped rioters enter the capitol on December 21st; he coordinated with them beforehand to aid their efforts. He even gave them his personal cell number so that they could alert him of their arrival. The actual event was disturbing enough, and now we know it was premeditated with Rep. Nearman’s help.

Unbelievable. Enough is enough.

This week, the Oregon House of Representatives is considering whether to officially expel Representative Nearman from the legislature. It would make him the first legislator to ever be expelled in Oregon. To do so, 40 members of the Oregon House of Representatives must vote in favor of his expulsion. Justice is within reach — yesterday all Oregon House Republicans collectively called for Rep. Nearman’s resignation [[link removed]] in an open letter.

Will you email your state representative and ask them to hold Rep. Nearman accountable by voting to expel him from the Oregon House? [Take action: [link removed]] It’s crucial that we get enough votes to remove Rep. Nearman from office and hold him accountable for his part in this attack on our democracy.

With less than three weeks left of session, we must make sure legislators act swiftly to remove Rep. Nearman from office. Please reach out to your representative today to ask them to hold Rep. Nearman accountable for his unacceptable behavior! [Take action: [link removed]]

In solidarity,
