Fifty-eight years ago this week, President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law. It was a historic first step in the fight to ensure equal pay for equal work.

But nearly six decades later, the gender pay gap persists for many women in our country. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women earned 82 cents for every dollar men earned last year. That fraction is even smaller for women of color.

We need to close this gender pay gap to build back better, and Congress must act to end it once and for all.

This week, my Democratic colleagues and I will push for a Senate floor vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act . This bill is vital now as pay inequity only compounds the harmful impacts of this pandemic on women in our American workforce. We are counting on strong public support to make this bill become law.

Please add your name to our petition in support of the Paycheck Fairness Act . We must eliminate the gender wage gap and end gender pay discrimination >>

Equal pay deserves equal work. Period. Thank you for raising your voice to close the gender pay gap and ensure pay equity for every American.

Onward,

Chris
