there is no planet B

Friend,

With the climate crisis worsening and getting more attention, companies are increasingly making vague commitments to reach net zero emissions to look good to the public.

But many of these commitments are greenwashing, pure and simple.

We have a chance to demand meaningful, consistent reporting and commitments on climate from publicly traded companies

All too often companies, including large banks, utilities, and consumer goods corporations, fail to provide specifics about their current impacts on the climate and communities of color and the steps they are taking to address these impacts.

The lack of uniform disclosures on climate makes it impossible for millions of consumers and investors to compare companies when making purchases or assessing the risks of climate change in their portfolios.

This presents a huge challenge since the future performance of companies is increasingly tied to how well they respond to the climate crisis today.

As President Biden’s new Executive Order on Climate Related Financial Risk states: "The failure of financial institutions to appropriately and adequately account for and measure these physical and transition risks threatens the competitiveness of U.S. companies and markets, the life savings and pensions of U.S. workers and families, and the ability of U.S. financial institutions to serve communities."

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is asking for public comments by June 14 to help draft rules requiring consistent climate disclosures by all publicly traded companies.

This rule is crucial to ensuring that all investors, communities, and consumers have the information they need to determine if these companies are reporting out accurately on their climate impacts, risks, and steps for addressing their impacts.
