Folks,
LGBTQ+ rights are human rights. To deny any citizen the full set of rights and opportunities afforded to any other citizen is simply unconscionable.
So while we join our LGBTQ+ family and friends to celebrate Pride Month, we remember that right now, there are thirty states where it is legal to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in housing, education, employment, and other vital services.
No one should have to fear that they’ll lose their job or their home because of who they are or who they love.
That’s why I was proud to vote to pass the Equality Act to extend federal protections under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to include sexual orientation as well as gender identity -- the first-ever piece of legislation protecting members of the LGBTQ+ community from discrimination to pass the House in the history of Congress.
Equality can’t wait. I need 3,000 grassroots signers to join me in calling on the Senate to bring the Equality Act up for a vote to ensure that LGBTQ+ Americans have the protections they deserve!
It’s far past time for action.
Let’s make it happen,
Sean Casten
