LAANE is proud to be a co-sponsor of these landmark bills alongside the Teamsters. All of these policy fights are being championed by powerhouse Latina legislators in LA and Long Beach who have long stood with port drivers and working-class communities:

⏩ SB 338, authored by Senator Lena Gonzalez, would ensure that retailers like Amazon and Walmart are held accountable when they contract with port trucking companies that violate Cal/OSHA and other labor laws.

⏩ SB 700, authored by Senator Maria Elena Durazo, would hold port trucking companies accountable by stopping payroll tax fraud and restoring drivers’ safety net and access to critical benefits.

⏩ AB 794, authored by Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo, is seeking to protect port drivers from predatory leases and to ensure that the state does not subsidize companies that violate labor laws related to worker misclassification as our port truck fleets transition to Zero Emissions.
Thank you to all of the Our People Our Port coalition partners and allies for your support of these bills, and for standing with port drivers – essential workers who kept goods moving for us all throughout the pandemic, with no safety net or protections.

Together we can hold port trucking companies and retail giants accountable for denying workers their rights and protections through misclassification and wage theft.

Now we’re on to the next house in the legislature as our bills become laws! Please join us in taking action to amplify continued support for these urgently needed policies by sharing the above graphic.
