Happy Pride Month, friend!
Throughout the month of June, we celebrate love and the various contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.
As we continue the fight for gay rights, we pause to honor the work of Marsha O. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera, both prominent activists during the 1969 Stonewall Riots. Together, they co-founded Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) and offered refuge to queer youth while lifting their voices in resistance to prejudice and discrimination.
Their willpower in the face of adversity has inspired a wave of political activism that has forever changed our nation’s status quo. Because of their sacrifice, many LGBTQ+ people are able to celebrate the right to love and live as their authentic selves, a privilege that was formerly denied.
While we join in the celebration of diversity and acceptance, we renew our commitment to genuine allyship. As the struggle for equality continues for transgender and intersex communities, Arizona Democrats remain steadfast in our fight for their rights and protections.
Together we continue down the road to equality, honoring the diligence and dedication of those who tragically lost their lives and commit once more to the creation of a stronger, more loving democracy that celebrates inclusivity.
