** There are only 3 days left in the legislative session, which ends on 6/10.
------------------------------------------------------------
Yet, the New York state legislature has failed to pass ANY significant climate laws.
It’s not too late, but Democratic leadership needs to be pressured to stop sitting on critical climate bills and bring them to a vote!
Please use the call scripts below TODAY to let them know that climate action can’t wait!
** Call script for Senator Andrea Stewart-Cousins at (518) 455-2585:
------------------------------------------------------------
“Hello my name is ____.
I am calling today to ask Senator Stewart-Cousins to support climate action this session. First and foremost, it is critical that the Senate reject the nominations of David Valesky and John Maggiore to the Public Service Commission. They are completely unqualified and have no experience in energy or environmental protection. Instead, we need qualified nominees who are committed to enforcing our climate laws and leading a just transition to renewable energy.
I am also asking Senator Stewart-Cousins to support the passage of 3 bills to address the climate crisis this session.
The first is the New York Build Public Renewables Act (bill number S6453), which will enable the New York Power Authority to build and sell low-cost renewable energy to all New Yorkers, and would create over 35,000 good jobs.
The second is the Clean Futures Act (bill number S5939A), which would stop permits for new fossil fuel plants that are not needed for reliability.
The third is bill number S7006, which would prevent old fossil fuel plants that are shut down from coming back online under old permits.
These bills are all critically important for building a just transition to renewable energy and for meeting our legally mandated climate targets. I urge Senator Stewart-Cousins to bring all 3 to a vote before the end of session. Thank you.”
** Call script for Assemblymember Carl Heastie at 518-455-3791 and Assemblymember Crystal Peoples-Stokes at 518-455-5005:
------------------------------------------------------------
“Hello my name is ____.
I am calling today to ask Assemblymember (Heastie or Peoples-Stokes) to support the passage of 4 bills to address the climate crisis this session.
The first is the New York Build Public Renewables Act (bill number A1466A), which will enable the New York Power Authority to build and sell low-cost renewable energy to all New Yorkers, and create over 35,000 good jobs.
The second is the Clean Futures Act (bill number A6761), which would stop permits for new fossil fuel plants that are not needed for reliability.
The third is bill number A7768, which would prevent old fossil fuel plants that are shut down from coming back online under old permits.
The fourth is bill number A7389A, which puts a moratorium on energy-intensive cryptocurrency mining.
These bills are all critically important for building a just transition to renewable energy and for meeting our legally mandated climate targets. I urge Assemblymember (Heastie or Peoples-Stokes) to bring all 4 to a vote before the end of session. Thank you.”
