Did you know that New Politics sticks with their candidates through thick and thin, whether they win or lose?
Hello! I’m Elizabeth Beck — I’m a single mom, an Iraq War veteran, and last week, I won my election for a seat on the Fort Worth (TX) City Council. I couldn’t have done it without the advising I got from New Politics along the way.
Please let me explain how important their support was and why their work across the country is so critical right now. Then, I hope you’ll consider making a $9, $19, or $39 donation to New Politics in honor of my win in the 9th City Council District so they can help more servant leaders run and win.
Let’s start at the beginning: I enlisted in the Army Reserves at the age of 17. I knew it would help me climb the ladder of opportunity, and I wasn’t afraid of a challenge, but politics was the furthest thing from my mind. Fast forward through deploying to Iraq, earning my bachelor’s and two graduate degrees, and giving birth to two daughters. The military had instilled in me a commitment to serving others, and I realized political office was the next step to doing the most good. But where to begin?
Truth be told, City Council wasn’t the first office I ran for. In 2020, New Politics endorsed my campaign for State Representative. I’m proud of the competitive race I ran, but like most first-time candidates, I was unsuccessful. Recruiting first-time candidates to run for office is no easy task; the odds are stacked heavily in favor of incumbent politicians. But like me, New Politics isn’t afraid of a challenge.
By investing long-term in the leaders they support, New Politics isn’t just picking winners. They’re doing the hard work of revitalizing our democracy by empowering proven servant leaders to run as first-time candidates, and to stick with politics even if we aren’t successful that first time.
My campaign in 2020 was exhausting, and coming up short was heartbreaking. But New Politics believed in me and encouraged me to use the lessons I learned to run again, right away. Now, I’m so proud to have the opportunity to serve my community in the political arena, and I’m eager to help grow the movement of servant leaders entering politics.
Will you help New Politics recruit and support more candidates like me? Donate $9, $19, or even $39 today in honor of my win in the 9th City Council District.
I’m so grateful for this community of supporters. Thanks for all you do to help folks like me serve again through elected office.
