LCA would like to thank everyone in Texas who took the time to write to their elected officials in opposition of Bill HB 1480, the Texas ag-gag law. Your voices were heard, and while HB 1480 ultimately passed, it was amended to remove the problematic language that would have criminalized whistleblowing in animal agriculture.
 
Ag-gag laws are a direct violation of the First Amendment right of Freedom of Speech and seeks to hide what is happening to animals on factory farms, in transit, and in slaughterhouses, by making it a crime to document the truth. Although targeted at animal rights activists, ag-gag laws also makes it illegal for whistleblowers to expose public health and safety concerns; workers' rights abuses; and environmental concerns.
