Hi Friend,
“For every child” is an ambitious mandate, but UNICEF will settle for nothing less — and as a member of our community, I bet you won’t either. We must protect the present and reimagine the future for every child. We’re doing that by providing critical support to help children survive the combined crises of the pandemic, climate change, economic challenges and widespread inequality.
In the midst of the pandemic, I see similarities to the crossroads UNICEF faced at its founding 75 years ago. In the aftermath of World War II, UNICEF worked with partners to build new health and welfare systems around the world. We played a pivotal role in defeating smallpox. Today, we’re reimagining what the world could be after COVID-19.
Our goal is ensuring a global recovery through five key priorities: providing COVID-19 vaccines for all, revolutionizing learning, investing in mental health, ending discrimination and addressing the climate crisis. Friend, we’ve made solid progress to help children in the face of the pandemic. Now we must double down to protect an entire generation’s future. |
Friend, helping children recover is not a return to how things were in the past or an effort to prevent things from getting worse. Children everywhere have experienced a ‘normal’ that put their lives in danger and never gave them a chance. With your help, we’re creating a better world, one that invests in the lives of every child and their future.
Together, we can come out of the pandemic with a world that is not only rebuilt but tailor-made to address the needs of children and keep them safe.
Sincerely,
Michael J. Nyenhuis
