“In 1981 Chile became the first country to privatize social security, ending the pay-as-you-go system that had been in place since 1924 and had collapsed. Coinciding with the launch of the fourth annual edition of its Index of Economic Freedom for Spain’s Cities—which won Atlas Network’s 2020 Europe Liberty Award—Fundación para el Avance de la Libertad released its first assessment of municipal economic freedom for thirty large cities in the EU, European Free Trade Association, and UK region. Stockholm, Manchester, Munich, Copenhagen, Paris, London, Cologne, and Budapest all received “Moderately High Local Economic Freedom” classifications.

Late on May 17th, the government announced a request for proposals from companies to “provide airborne Intelligence Reconnaissance Services primarily on holiday weekends through Thanksgiving...aimed at the detection of campfires, off-highway vehicles operating in restricted areas, and…get this…gatherings of 10 or more individuals,” according to a commentary in the Calgary Sun. By 8 a.m. the following morning, Alberta Institute had launched a petition against using drones to spy on Albertans.
