In 2020, I proudly took on Lee Zeldin -- and now that his attention is directed towards the governor's mansion, we have an even better shot of flipping NY-01.
As an educator, scientist, and mother, I am as committed as ever to keeping the GOP from replacing Zeldin with another dishonest politician. It's critical that we seize this opportunity and nominate a strong Democrat to fill this open seat.
That is why I am thrilled that Kara Hahn has decided to step up and run. Kara is a leader who is deeply connected to this community and understands the problems families here face. I've known Kara for over 20 years, as my friend and mentor. She's a proven leader who has served in the Suffolk County Legislature for nearly a decade, including as Majority Leader and now Deputy Presiding Officer.
In office, Kara worked to prevent contaminants in our drinking water and to limit single-use plastics. Kara was the change agent behind getting NARCAN into the vehicles of first responders, which has saved countless lives in the fight against opioid addiction.
Kara has been an incredible advocate for our parks and open spaces, and in making sure that all residents have access to these wonderful resources.
Over and over again, Kara has found creative solutions that have real impact on the problems we face. Her past work is a testament to the kind of leader she'll be in Congress -- a compassionate and dedicated servant for all Long Islanders.
