June is Pride Month — a time for us to celebrate the accomplishments and progress of the LGBTQ+ community.
Right here in New York City, brave folks at the Stonewall Inn stood up for their dignity and helped spark a movement. I was proud to play a small part in making it a national monument to honor the profound impact.
And I’m even more proud to keep up the fight as a co-sponsor of the Equality Act -- which passed the House in February.
More than 50 years after Stonewall, we have made much progress and become a more accepting society. However, we still have a long way to go, and the progress we have made is not guaranteed without working to maintain it.
So, this Pride Month, as you celebrate, I urge you to also recommit to fight against the hatred and discrimination that continues to stop us from accepting the humanity of all of our neighbors.
But, especially after the year we all just had, I do really hope you take the time to celebrate. There is nothing more life-affirming than people being able to live fully as themselves. [link removed] [[link removed]] In solidarity,
