[link removed] [[link removed]]Dear John,
What’s the latest buzz on legislation to protect Maine’s pollinators?
I am pleased to report that earlier today, the Maine Legislature passed LD 155 — a bill that will protect Maine’s precious pollinators from harmful pesticides!
This bill will ban the use of several harmful neonicotinoids (neonics for short) on lawns and yards across our state. Neonics are a class of insecticides that pollute pollen and nectar when sprayed on plants. This is a problem because neonics are toxic to butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. A problem that is now well on its way to a solution.

But we need to keep this momentum going on banning harmful chemicals in Maine. Join us in sending a message to your legislators [[link removed]] urging them to support legislation to both ban the aerial spraying of herbicides (LD 125) over Maine’s forests and encourage more thoughtful protocols and studies to review how best to manage our forest biomes moving forward (LD 1549). We would like to give a special shout-out to Rep. Nicole Grohoski of Ellsworth for her tireless work to get LD 155 over the finish line in the Maine Legislature. Now, our bees and butterflies are just a couple of steps away from having a better future. And thanks to all of you who have added your voices at critical moments on this issue. As a beekeeper, I thank you for taking action and holding our leaders accountable.
We’ll bee sure to keep you informed on this and other critical issues as the session winds down in the coming weeks.
More soon,
Beth
