Hi John, it’s Cori
and Jamaal.

Today, we’re proud to introduce to you the Public Power Resolution — our
legislation that maps out a transition from our current corporate-owned,
profit-driven utilities systems to publicly-owned energy.

We need to revolutionize energy in our country to put our people and our
planet first — not energy monopolies.

[ [link removed] ]We’re going to explain why this legislation is so important and how we
got here — but before we do, we wanted to ask for your support as a
citizen co-sponsor. After you read the rest of this email, will you please
join us and add your name to our petition in support of this legislation?

We first started writing this resolution right around the Texas utilities
crisis back in February. As we watched millions being impacted by this
natural disaster, we knew that this wasn’t an isolated incident and
resolved to do something about it.

Because John, it
doesn't matter if you live in Texas, Missouri, New York, or elsewhere —
most of our energy systems are owned by private investors who gatekeep
energy sources like heat and electricity.

What happened in Texas has long been happening in our communities and will
continue to worsen if we don’t work together to address the climate and
utilities crises. We’ve both seen this happen firsthand. Families who are
already struggling to afford groceries and make ends meet are being
charged THE MOST to keep their heat on. When the power goes off,
communities like ours are THE LAST in line to receive help.

This current utilities structure exacerbates disasters — like climate
disasters, food insecurity, and income inequality — because it explicitly
prioritizes profits over people. People shouldn’t have to choose between
keeping their homes warm and putting food on the table. That’s where our
legislation, the Public Power Resolution, comes in.

We must transform our power system nationwide to be just, equitable,
anti-racist, as well as climate- and disaster-resilient. One way to do
this is by establishing a public power system that’s truly in the public’s
best interest — not motivated by corporations, greed, or power.

[ [link removed] ]John, we’re
introducing this resolution to the House, and we’re hoping that you can
join us in supporting this legislation by adding your name to our petition
as a citizen co-sponsor below. Will you join us?

Thank you for your support and solidarity. More soon,

Cori Bush & Jamaal Bowman

P.S. It’s going to take all of us if we want to fight for a future where
power is a public utility. [ [link removed] ]After you sign our petition above, will you
split a $5 contribution between both our campaigns so we
can continue to grow support for this resolution? Thank you!
