Life together: The UM Social Principles
The United Methodist Social Principles call us to faithful engagement with the world around us. On the latest episode of the “Get Your Spirit in Shape” podcast, the Rev. Sharon Austin, who was part of the team that worked on the revision of the Social Principles, talks about their importance and why they have been revised — although still waiting for General Conference approval. Reparations: Remembering, Repairing, Re-Imagining
Beginning this week, the General Board of Church and Society is hosting a special webinar series, “Reparations: Remembering, Repairing, Re-imagining.” For three Thursdays in June, they will examine the intergenerational racism and discrimination experienced by descendants of slavery to ask how it contributed and continues to contribute to the widening racial wealth gap seen today, examine examples of reparations taking place today and in U.S. history, and explore the theological case for reparations. The webinars will be at noon on June 10, 17 and 24. Register at https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_3u6QkgCWStm_hRZxFsgHSQ.
