Dear John,
I was in the district last week and was grateful to attend several Memorial Day Activities. I started off by laying a wreath at our beautiful Omaha National Cemetery (see the video here), speaking at American Legion Post #1, and later at the annual ceremony at Memorial Park (you can watch part of that speech here). In the afternoon, I spoke at a ceremony at Veterans Park in Papillion that honored our veterans and Gold Star families. Our freedom is not free, and it is thanks to the selfless sacrifice of countless veterans that we enjoy our freedoms today. As a retired Air Force brigadier general, I have consistently made caring for our veterans and military spouses one of my main priorities.
On Tuesday, I met with officials from OPPD to discuss energy policy and how OPPD is continuing to evolve in its response to COVID-19. I then toured Lincoln Premium Poultry’s facilities and learned about their operations and priorities. I will take this information back with me to Congress to better represent the needs of Nebraska’s agriculture industry.
We must find a bipartisanship solution for repairing our nation’s infrastructure. On Wednesday, I published an op-ed in the Omaha World-Herald calling for just that (you can read here). Nebraskans rely on dependable infrastructure to support our agricultural, health care and business communities, so solving this issue is a major priority for me.
That afternoon, I was a guest on “The Drive Home” on Boomer Radio with Jack Swanda. We talked about my story as well as important current issues. You can check out a recording of that talk here.
Finally, on Friday, I went to the Lincoln Airport and spoke at the retirement ceremony for the two OC-135B Open Skies aircraft that had previously been stationed at Offutt Air Force Base. While I fought hard, alongside Sen. Fischer and Rep. Fortenberry, to keep this mission the previous and current administration did not feel the need to keep the Open Skies treaty in place. In my speech, I thanked those who maintained and were part of the crew, over the years (video here).
As always, I am praying for our country and the health and safety of all Americans.
