Hi John – After more than a year of scrambling and uncertainty, families across the country are excited that this summer is feeling a bit like a return to normal. Parents are eager to return to work and workplaces, and having their kids return fully to school in the fall. But millions of parents cannot return to work, or increase their work hours to support their families, because they rely on child care to provide a safe place for their kids to learn and grow. And many child care facilities across the country remain closed or are open at reduced capacity. Moms by-and-large are the ones paying the price. During the pandemic, women between 25 to 44 years old were almost 3 times as likely as men to not be working because of child care responsibilities. More than 2 million left the workforce entirely.1 Congress is currently debating a plan to rebuild the infrastructure of our country to help restart our economy and get people back to work. But many members of Congress seem to be unsure if we need to put money towards child care as well as roads and bridges. Tell your members of Congress today – we can’t get our country working again without rebuilding the child care industry! Did you know that even before the pandemic, at least 50% of American families were living in places that are known as “child care deserts,” areas that do not have enough licensed child care facilities to come close to meeting the need? This is unacceptable. Congress needs to act on giving more funding to child care facilities so women can go back to work, children have a safe environment to learn and grow, and more jobs can be filled so the economy can continue to develop. We all need to act fast on this in order for Congress to keep child care funding in their proposed plan. Send a message today: support child care funding as part of infrastructure spending in the American Jobs Plan. Thanks for being a voice for kids, |
