Store your treasures in heaven

“… lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

 Matthew 6:19-21 (ESV)

Jesus tells us to store our treasure in heaven, not on earth where it can easily be destroyed. He challenges His followers to avoid selfishly accumulating items they do not need and instead urges them instead to do things on earth that will have an effect for eternity. What a great reminder. It is easy to get caught up in things that are only temporary.

By following Jesus’ charge we avoid the emptiness resulting from filling our lives with extravagant things or meaningless activities. Instead our hearts turn to the needs of those around us.

Jesus’ charge is about more than just financial giving, but also about teaching our hearts to desire the treasure of heaven — Jesus — and to love like Him.

Praises and Prayers

  • Praise God for the volunteers packing aid at the Mission Packing Projects this month. The humanitarian supplies they pack will help relieve suffering, restore dignity, and reveal the hope of Jesus to people living in the toughest places on earth.

  • Pray for those suffering from the record-breaking surge of COVID-19 cases in India and South Asia. People in the area already struggle because of hunger and poverty, and the mandated lockdowns prevent them from working to provide for the basic needs of their families. In addition, the pandemic is causing hospitals and clinics to quickly deplete the supplies required to care for sick patients. Pray that hospital networks and local Unto teams will be well equipped to serve the people and fulfill the needs of healthcare facilities affected by pandemic.

  • Pray for the people of Chad and our local staff teams there. The country is in conflict and experiencing broad political instability that led to the death of their president. Pray for the safety of locals and their families and pray for peace to be restored to this nation.
