The COVID-19 vaccine continues to become more widely available, and schools are considered a major partner in distributing the vaccine efficiently. Additionally, as it is considered a priority for the new presidential administration to reopen school buildings, school employees and students will be considered high priority for receiving the vaccine. State education leaders will be a significant partner in supporting districts’ vaccine rollout and ensuring the process is done efficiently and effectively. This panel will discuss how states and districts are thinking through this challenge and how leaders are ensuring equity and efficiency in distributing the vaccine.

A growing number of institutions across our country are becoming Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), a designation that applies when 25 percent or more of an institution’s student body is comprised of Latinx students. Higher education leaders and advocates have been working for years to understand the unique needs of HSIs and to develop strategies to support these institutions. Hear from three leading experts on how best to support current or soon-to-be HSIs.

While education can be a vehicle for uplift, opportunity, and social mobility, it can also be leveraged as a mechanism for exclusion and as a tool of forced assimilation. The destructive legacy of figures like Richard Pratt and boarding schools for indigenous children still loom large, with the implications for indigenous children and families still being felt today. In this webinar hear from resource experts on the intersections of American indigenous education and hopes for liberation.

With issues of racial injustice dominating national and state discourse, policymakers' attention has been drawn to state social studies curriculum and the importance of ensuring that all students see their identity reflected in their learning. Join us as we discuss how state policymakers have worked to navigate the politics of adopting new social studies curriculum and build consensus around the way students interact with our nation’s complex history.

As the fight for gender equity in education policy and leadership continues, we must examine the obstacles faced by Black women in education leadership and elected office. Black women often face dual burdens lived at the intersection of their race and gender identity, frequently subjected to lower compensation, microagressions, and a slew of other insults not faced by their male peers or white female colleagues. In this webinar, hear from resource experts about the discrimination faced by Black women in education spaces and how the field can address this long legacy of asking so much, while providing so little.

Systemic inequities are real and continue to be a challenge across the early childhood education system. Although the problems in unequal access, availability, and treatment are universal across the education system, state leaders are creating solutions to infuse equity in system reform. In this webinar, hear from state early childhood leaders within state departments of education, highlighting strategies taken to infuse equitable practices across state systems.
