John,
In America, there are two tax systems: one for working families, and another for the rich and powerful who avoid paying their fair share.
Each year as hardworking families pay their fair share of taxes, the rich and powerful use loopholes to avoid paying what they owe. This causes the American people to lose one trillion dollars every year, and the impacts of this are being directly felt by low income Americans and working families.
John, we need to crack down on corporations cheating the tax code, like Nike and FedEx. We need to recover the $1 trillion a year that they owe. One of the ways we can do this is by fully funding the IRS. Doing that alone—and making sure everyone pays their fair share—produces $6.50 in tax revenue per person.
Currently, the IRS is severely underfunded, which is why corporations and wealthy individuals that don’t pay their fair share can get away with it. But by fully funding the IRS, auditors can go after corporations that aren’t paying their fair share—and the money from that can go right back into growing our economy, instead of lining the pockets of wealthy CEOs.
