John,
Five months ago today, just three days after I was sworn into Congress, my staff and I were evacuated from the Capitol after far-right Trump supporters violently breached the building.
Never in the history of our country has there been a sitting president instigating a violent mob against our Congress.
And now, Republicans in the Senate have used the filibuster to block an investigation of what happened that day.
I’m not ready to give up yet, though, John -- will you sign my petition calling on Republicans to support a bipartisan commission? »
It’s clear why some Republicans refuse to support an investigation:
They know they are complicit and don’t want to be held to account.
But we have a duty to each other and to the future of our democracy, John.
Every member of Congress, just three days before this attack, took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
I take that oath seriously, John.
So I hope you’ll join me on the five month anniversary of that dark day in our nation’s history in calling on my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to support an investigation »
Thank you,
Ritchie Torres
Congressman, NY-15
