Food & Water Watch is fighting on multiple fronts to take on climate change.
John,
Climate change. We experience its effects every day. And every day, it’s even clearer that we need to act NOW.
A new report from the World Meteorological Organization confirms we're getting dangerously close to the 1.5°C (2.7°F) tipping point of irreversible climate chaos. And the Environmental Protection Agency has compiled data showing how life is getting harder because of climate change: bigger wildfires and droughts, deadly heat waves and flooding, warming oceans, rising sea levels, and hotter temperatures almost everywhere.
This planet is the only one we get. That’s why Food & Water Watch is fighting on multiple fronts to take on climate change.
Our organizers are working to mobilize supporters to help pass 10 federal bills that would address climate change and move us toward a sustainable climate future. One of these bills, the End Polluter Welfare Act, would close dozens of federal tax loopholes that specifically benefit oil, gas and coal companies. It would also prohibit any taxpayer funding for fossil fuel research and development, and it would end federal support for international oil, gas and coal projects.
We’re working to make sure the Biden administration and Congress reject Big Oil & Gas scams like carbon capture, carbon taxes and other false solutions that would lock us into decades of more drilling and fracking. And we’re working to make sure that any legislation that promotes clean energy only includes renewable energy — not fracked gas, biogas, nuclear power, biomass or other dirty energy sources.
We're also pursuing several legal challenges to fight bad climate rules. We filed a lawsuit against the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to challenge its inadequate review of greenhouse gas emissions from pipelines and its failure to calculate the climate impacts these pipelines will cause.
And we're challenging the Trump administration’s attack on the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). NEPA requires that federal agencies conduct an environmental impact study on any major federal decision, such as whether to permit oil pipelines and power plants. Yet the weak new rules could exclude consideration of climate impacts for these projects.
Every piece of legislation that supports dirty energy makes it more difficult to achieve the 100% renewable energy future we need to avoid climate chaos. It’s because of your constant support that we’ve been able to keep focused on what we need to do to protect people and our planet, and check the dangerous power of corrupt corporations and their government enablers.
Your support is what builds the power needed to create a world where everyone has access to safe food, clean drinking water and a livable climate. Thank you for standing with Food & Water Watch.
