John,
In my work as a voting rights litigator, I spend every day pushing back against deceitful, malicious, and downright shameful attacks on Americans’ access to the ballot box. But the truth is that people like me -- and organizations I counsel like the NDRC -- are up against incredibly well-funded and well-organized opponents, including the Heritage Foundation and its campaign arm, Heritage Action.
Heritage Action has been working overtime to push legislation in state legislatures that would make it harder for Americans to vote. And in some cases, they’ve already succeeded. The new law recently passed in Georgia contained eight key points that were included on the Heritage Foundation’s list of best practices for voter suppression legislation.
But the problem goes far beyond Georgia. According to Heritage Action’s own executive director, the group wrote 19 provisions of the new law currently being considered in Texas. They’re not going to stop until Americans in every state have to jump through hoops to exercise their right to vote, and it’s critical that groups like the NDRC are prepared to fight back .
That’s why I’m writing to you today, John. If you’re able, please consider pitching in to support the NDRC’s crucial work to defend every American’s access to the ballot box.

While the Heritage Foundation likes to dress their efforts up as a grassroots movement, they do a pretty poor job of hiding the fact that they’re actually a well-financed, elitist-run machine. In a leaked video from a donor summit, Heritage Action’s executive director talked about giving “marching orders” to an army of well-resourced conservative activists in states across the country.
And while the Republican legislators supporting their model legislation and similar bills claim to do so in the name of election security, the reality is that the provisions Heritage Action recommends have very little to do with making elections more secure and everything to do with making it harder for Democratic-leaning voters to cast a ballot .
It’s all based on the Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump thanks to fraudulent votes. But while our democracy may have survived the Trump presidency, there’s a very good possibility it won’t survive the kind of voting restrictions Republicans are rushing to implement all over the country if we don’t step up.
That’s why I’m asking for you to support the NDRC by making a donation, John. They are critical partners in the fight to preserve our democracy, and they’re counting on your support to keep up their work.
