Friend,
Today is 65 Roses Day!
Over six decades ago, a mother named Mary began volunteering for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation when she learned that all three of her beloved sons, Richard, Arthur, and Anthony, had been diagnosed with CF. Desperate to help, Mary began calling civic clubs and service organizations to gather financial support for CF research. Her son, Richard, listened closely as his mother made each call. Too young to pronounce cystic fibrosis, Richard excitedly told his mother that he knew she was working for "65 Roses." Mary replied as tears streamed down her cheeks, "Yes, Richard, I am working for 65 Roses."
Today, children still use the term to describe their disease and inspire hope. We celebrate 65 Roses Day each year on June 5 to honor his mom, Mary G. Weiss, and other members of our community like her who have helped pave the way for better treatments and care.
