AMP crisis mobilization and rapid response
Dear Supporter,
From the moment the families of Sheikh Jarrah received word that they were being forcefully expelled from their homes in the beginning of May, AMP rose to the task and helped lead an international campaign in their defense. We also focused on asserting the Palestinian people's right to worship in peace and free of Israeli aggression during the final nights of Ramadan when Israeli forces attacked worshipers.
And as soon as Gaza was being pummeled by a barbaric Israeli aerial bombardment, our team was swift to act on the policy, media, and grassroots levels. We launched a campaign to pressure our elected officials and the Biden administration to demand Israel stop its aggression and to hold it accountable with talking points, action alerts, petitions, rallies, and demonstrations.
Here's a snippet of what we've been able to accomplish through your support and contributions in the past weeks alone:
- Organized the #SanctionIsrael campaign to end US support for Israel. This campaign included our online petition, our virtual gala with esteemed guests such as Rep. Rashida Tlaib and a national march for Palestine in Washington, DC with over 35,000 attendees and 130+ endorsing organizations.
- We helped mobilize to get more members of Congress to sponsor HR2590, the Palestinian Children & Families Act, legislation which prohibits US funding of Israeli human rights abuses of Palestinians.
- We helped mobilize thousands of calls, emails, and tweets in support of the groundbreaking joint resolution of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Bernie Sanders to block the Biden administration from giving more US weapons to Israel.
- We helped organize to get 24 Members of Congress to support Rep. Marie Newman’s Dear Colleague letter to the State Department protesting Israel's war crime of forcibly expelling Palestinians in Jerusalem.
- We helped mobilize for and delivered a petition signed by more than 200,000 people to the State Department opposing expulsions in Jerusalem and co-organized a rally at the State Department upon delivery. Representatives Rashida Tlaib and André Carson spoke to 1,000 people to demand swift action from the Biden administration to halt the expulsion of the families.
- We helped mobilize 100,000+ people nationwide in massive protests in all major cities including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, and Washington, DC. These mass demonstrations have attracted the attention of local and national media in the New York, Chicago, LA, Minnesota, and New Jersey.
- We led a coalition of 30 Muslim organizations to #BoycottBidenEid, which was endorsed by nearly 8,000 signers in 24 hours. Together we boycotted President Biden's Eid celebration at the White House due his callous response towards the situation in Gaza.
- AMP staff and chapters spoke with numerous media outlets to discuss issues like US funding of weapons to Israel, Gaza, Black-Palestinian solidarity, and the growing momentum and work in the US.
- If you aren’t following us on Instagram be sure to! We’ve gone on Instagram Live with influencers from a variety of backgrounds to reach new audiences to teach Palestine - from beauty and fashion influencers, to activists on the ground, high profile scholars and community leaders like Imams Omar Suleiman and Suhaib Webb, prominent rapper Lowkey, young activists from inside Gaza, and many more.
The momentum we are seeing is the result of our collective work. For years we have been educating the public on the just cause of Palestine and have seen the tide shift. This moment shows us how far we’ve gotten. More people than ever before in the US are speaking out for Palestinian rights, including elected officials, celebrities, and the media. It is now on us to build on this momentum and end US support for the oppression of the Palestinians.
AMP is committed to continuing this work and we need your help. In the coming weeks, we must be able to increase our capacity to expand our communications and advocacy work.
We’ve seen how vital this work is. It is now on us to double down to achieve justice for Palestine. As we speak, AMP is on the streets, conducting interviews, and advocating in the halls of power for Palestinian rights. Just yesterday, Israel requested $1 billion in additional aid to restock their weapons.
Help us take our work to the next level to confront this development by making a tax-deductible contribution today.
Yours in the struggle,
Dr. Osama Abuirshaid
Executive Director
