John,

Today marks Gun Violence Awareness Day -- but every day, so many face the terrible reality of mourning the lost life of a loved one. Really, every single day, we need to be aware of the impacts of gun violence -- and dedicate all that we can towards ending this epidemic.

Almost daily, we see news clips about acts of mass gun violence. We all remember watching the aftermath of Sandy Hook, of Parkland High School, of the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, of Las Vegas. Earlier this week, a firefighter lost his life at an LA County fire station, and another was injured. This latest gun violence tragedy is another terrible reminder of how close to home these events really are.

But those are just the most high profile instances of gun violence. Acts of gun violence happen every. single. day.

That's why I'm beyond committed to changing the course our country is on when it comes to gun safety. It's time to pass common sense legislation to keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them.

So on this Gun Violence Awareness Day, I'm asking for you to chip in $10 or anything you can to EveryTown for Gun Safety Action Fund, a group that helps elect leaders who will pass gun control legislation.

For far too long, politicians have offered "thoughts and prayers" to the families of victims of gun violence. That can't be the end of what they do to curb this problem.

Time and again, Congress has failed to pass meaningful gun control legislation because of roadblocks set by conservatives. They don't deny that there's an issue -- they're just too beholden to the gun lobby to do anything.

We can't afford inaction. We can't let any more families suffer. We must do something.

Gun Violence Awareness Day is a reminder of the need for action. If you agree we need leaders who will use their power to end the gun violence epidemic, make a contribution to EveryTown for Gun Safety Action Fund.

Thanks so much. Take a moment or two today to reflect and remember those lost to gun violence.
