Happy Pride Month, y’all.

Pride has always been about dismantling unjust systems and celebrating the wholeness of human identity. It serves as a reminder of the Stonewall Uprising, in June of 1969 when LGBTQ patrons of the Stonewall Inn Bar rose up in protest of discrimination. Their bravery and organizing continue to inspire and stand as a rallying point for the fight for LGBTIA+ rights.

It also serves as a reminder of the activists -- Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, and more -- who organized and advocated for the New York LGBTQ community prior to, throughout, and in the years that followed the uprising. Pride is about making our voices heard and standing up for what we believe in -- the right to be exactly who we are without discrimination, punishment, or shame -- and fighting unjust systems in our country.

This month, I’m celebrating Pride by joining When We All Vote to advocate for accessibility for ALL at the ballot box. Together, we can fight voter suppression and give every American the chance to make their voice heard with the passage of the For the People Act. Will you join me and email your senators today about supporting voting rights for all?

In every month of this year, state legislators in 48 states have introduced bills that limit voting access -- bills that would disproportionately affect Black and Brown communities and those typically left out of the democratic process -- the very people we strive to honor during Pride Month. The For the People Act can put a stop to this -- it’s about common sense reforms that protect and expand our democracy and putting the power in the hands of the people.

I’m going to fight back and stand up for what I believe in -- equal and accessible representation for all -- and I need you with me. Together, we can continue to push back against the unjust systems we face in our country and make meaningful change.
