I have great news to share with you: I’ve been fighting in Congress for years to push the Gateway Tunnel project forward, and recently, the Biden Administration gave the green light to advance Gateway, making way for engineering and pre-construction work to begin immediately and getting us closer to putting shovels in the ground.

The Hudson River Tunnel is a key piece of the Gateway Tunnel project. Before the pandemic, the tunnels carried 450 trains with roughly 200,000 passengers every weekday. But the tunnels are now over 100 years old and severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy. If the tunnels were to shut down, it could cost our economy $16 billion.
The Gateway project was held up by the Trump Administration due to petty partisan politics, making the project more expensive and putting New Jersey commuters at risk.
I’ve been fighting for Gateway since I entered Congress, and I’m glad to have the Biden Administration as an essential ally in this fight. I’ll continue fighting to secure funding for Gateway in President Biden’s American Jobs Plan and to move the president’s historic infrastructure plan forward in Congress.
