Good afternoon! Today, The Washington Post published an op-ed I wrote. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read it:

It was important for me to publish this piece because as a descendant of enslaved people, and as a former high school social studies teacher, I have seen firsthand how important it is for Americans to learn a history that is representative and honest. Yet, we’ve witnessed legislatures in states across the nation try to silence this history — my family’s history.

Here is a sample of my article. I hope you’ll take the time to read the entire piece, as well.

"America is a complicated and still-evolving narrative. Systemic racism is real. Acknowledging this fact doesn’t negate the beauty of the Declaration of Independence, the freedoms enshrined in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, or the American promise of equality and opportunity."
